Panasonic’s fully-rugged handheld line-up has just taken a pleasant turn in the right direction. Smaller, thinner and offering voice services, the new Toughpad FZ-N1 is incredibly functional, absurdly rugged and virtually the same size as a typical smartphone. Running a relatively current Android Lollipop operating system and brining a standard barcode scanner to the table, the Toughpad FZ-N1 fills a desperate void in a variety of mobile applications. The FZ-N1 is rated for 6-foot drops and can be submersed in up to 3 feet of water for 30-minutes. You will notice Panasonic’s fully-rugged handheld devices are never referred to as phones. That is intentional. The Toughpad N1 is light-years beyond a phone.
