As Panasonic’s flagship model, the Toughbook 31 continues to evolve and maintain its position atop the rugged laptop world. With the latest and greatest in Intel processing, the CF-31 is certified to fully pass MIL-STD-810G testing in all aspects and beyond. This includes but is not limited to a 6 foot drop, shock and vibration, rain, dust and sand, altitude and extreme temperatures as well as humidity. The Toughbook 31 has an IP65 certified all-weather design. The CF-31 continues to have an optional hazardous location certified model adherring to the new ANSI Standard. The CF-31 comes standard with a Hard Disk Drive heater and of course the expected magnesium alloy casing and built-in handle.

Toughbook 31 specs include a removable shock-mounted hard drive with reinforced port doors that fully close and lock. Touchscreen is a standard feature on all current Panasonic CF-31 models with a LCD film protector pre-installed. The CF-31 comes loaded with Windows® 10 Pro (available Windows® 7 Professional downgrade option). The Panasonic CF-31 laptop continues to offer a variety of Intel i-series processors ranging from 2.3GHz with Turbo Boost up to 2.9GHz. Questions & Answers

Ask a Question
  • I need a laptop to use at the sea, so I need it resistant to water and also salt, so which computer will be the best?

The Toughbook 31 with a rubber keyboard is typically the best unit for salt water environments if you are looking for a traditional clamshell style laptop.  There are other options for smaller tablets or convertible tablets, but I would start with the CF-31.

  • Some of the keys have numbers after them and when I try to type the letter the number displays instead.

It sounds like you have your NumLock pressed...

  • Is the hdmi an input or output?

The HDMI port on a CF-31 can push data both ways...so it just depends on what you are trying to accomplish.  The most common use would be for connected to an external monitor.

  • I am looking for a new ToughBook for the Fire Department, who in the past has been using CF-19. I have a firm budget of $4,500, and I am in the process or putting together a quote for the CF-31 platform. I have four questions. 1) Will a CF-31 fit in a CF-19 dock? This is what is currently in place in the vehicles. 2) What is the standard warranty that comes with the unit? 3) I believe the stock keyboard on the CF-31 is backlit, an option that was extra on the CF-19. Is the only reason for the CF-WKB3118M is this is fully waterpoof? 4) If I order a Verizon 314GLTEFU LTE 4G wireless card, do I need to also order a U-blox GPS card? Can Phoenix WDA work with just the GPS functionality on the Verizon LTE card? In the past with the CF-19 we had to order both a LTE and GPS card. James Matelski, City of Franklin IT Director

    1) Will a CF-31 fit in a CF-19 dock?  Unfortunately no.  Docks for a CF-19 and a CF-31 are very different.

    2) What is the standard warranty that comes with the unit?  All new Toughbooks will come with a standard 3-Year Panasonic Warranty.

    3) I believe the stock keyboard on the CF-31 is backlit, an option that was extra on the CF-19.  Is the only reason for the CF-WKB3118M is this is fully waterpoof?  Yes, the current CF-31 does come standard with a plastic backlit/emissive keyboard.  There is an option to upgrade to a rubber backlit keyboard, which is more durable but also more challenging to type on.

    4) If I order a Verizon 314GLTEFU LTE 4G wireless card, do I need to also order a U-blox GPS card?  Can Phoenix WDA work with just the GPS functionality on the Verizon LTE card?  Correct.  The 4G LTE multi-carrier chip also offers its own stand alone GPS receiver.  You do not need to even activate the 4G LTE as the GPS receiver on that chip is truly sattelite based.

  • does this laptop meet class 1 div 2 standards

Yes, the Toughbook 31 does have a version that offers this certification.  Please be advise that this is never a standard feature on any Toughbook or Toughpad.  ANSI Hazardous Location certified units for Class 1 Div 2 is an optional/upgrade feature that will typically carry a very long lead-time, depending specifically on features and options.

  • Do you have a model in stock with an SSD and a USB 3.0 port? If there are multiple I'd like to know about the cheapest one that fits those qualifications.

CF-31's are highly customizable.  Upgrading to a SSD is common and a readily available option.  The CF-31 also comes standard with a USB 3.0 port (along with three 2.0's).
